Transforming Lives: Batoke Fashion Cooperative Celebrates First Year

May 12, 2026 490

One year ago, 25 young women, many of whom had dropped out of school or were raising children alone in Batoke village, enrolled in the CRA Tailoring and Livelihood masterclass. They faced severe economic insecurity and lacked confidence.

Today, they are the proud co-owners of the Batoke Fashion Cooperative. Under the guidance of our livelihood officer, they completed intensive training, received sewing machines, and mastered small business management. In the last three months alone, the cooperative secured a major contract to sew uniforms for two local primary schools and crafted customized African-print attire for Limbe cultural markets. Every member now earns a sustainable monthly income, allowing them to pay school fees, secure nutritious meals, and reinvest in their community savings group.
